LAHORE, Sept 17: The Punjab labour and human resource department will establish a calibration centre to determine the exact quantity of petrol, diesel and other liquid fuels in tankers and other mobile storage vessels.

This was said by Punjab Labour and Human Resource Minister Syed Akhtar Husain Rizvi while chairing a departmental meeting held at his office.

He said the project would cost Rs40.66 million.

Labour secretary Hassan Nawaz Tarar and other senior officers attended the meeting.

The minister said the department, taking notice of complaints of less quantity of fuel in petrol lorries, had decided to set up a calibration centre at Sheikhupura.

“For this purpose, the process of land acquisition is under way, after which machinery will be installed and residences for staff will also be constructed.”

The minister said the weights and measures wing of the department would administer the centre. After completion of the project, it would be compulsory for every driver of oil tanker to obtain a quantity certificate from the centre before delivering fuel at the pump, he said. —APP
