PESHAWAR, Sept 16: Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Salim Saifullah Khan said on Saturday the country’s economy would further improve after construction of four new dams.

Speaking at a public meeting in Jalpai Nizampur in the Nowshera district, he hoped that construction of dams at Gomal Zam, Kurram Tangi, Bhasha and Munda would open up new avenues of socio-economic development in the country.

He said the government would honour pledges it made with the people after coming into power in 2002. He said it was taking steps for development of the country and had completed many mega projects.

The minister said that during the last 35 years, no dam could be built but President Gen Pervez Musharraf had announced construction of four dams to overcome the energy crisis in the country. The power shortage in the country was due to non-construction of dams, he said.

He claimed that Pakistan was the only country projecting the cause of the Ummah throughout the world.

On this occasion, Naeem Khattak, Syed Ijaz Ali Shah, Sarfraz Khan and Ishtiaq Khattak of the People’s Party Parliamentarians announced joining the ruling PML.—APP
