Punjab trounce NWFP

LAHORE, Sept 15: Five goals by Imran Malik including a hat-trick helped Punjab make a fine start in the 2nd Inter-provincial games, crushing NWFP 10-0 in the opening match at the National Hockey Stadium on Friday.

Punjab scored nine goals through field attempts.

Imran drew first blood scoring in the 11th minute while four minutes later Abdul Khaliq doubled the lead.

Imran increased the lead to 5-0 before half-time scoring three goals in a row to complete the hat-trick. He struck in the 26th, 30th and the 34th minute.

Punjab, building on further pressure made it 6-0 through Imran Abbas who converted the penalty corner in the 45th minute. Rashid blasted home in the 51st and 65th minute to make it 8-0. In the last stages Abdur Rahman (68th) and Imran Malik (69th) hit the board to complete the tally.

On Saturday, Punjab play Sindh while Balochistan face NWFP.
