Woman, daughter tortured over rent

GUJRANWALA, Feb 12: A woman and her young daughter were manhandled by some 11 people for not paying the monthly rent of the house in Wahdat Colony here on Tuesday.

According to details, one Azhar Mahmood got a rented house from Muhammad Afzal in Street No 45, Wahdat Colony, a couple of years ago. Mahmood reportedly fell ill and failed to pay the rent for Jan, 2002. Despite assurance, Afzal and his accomplices barged into the house and dragged Mahmood’s wife Robina and daughter out of the house.

Some people in the locality rescued the women. The assailants left the place, warning the tenants to vacate the house.

Meanwhile, five assailants manhandled one Zakia who reportedly supported his brothers following their quarrel with the accused in Tohar Kalan village, Nausheran Virkan.

The intruders clubbed the women and tore her clothes. Some local residents rescued her.

PROVINCIAL MINISTER: The government was making efforts to promote education in the district, provincial minister for social welfare and women development Shaheen Atiqur Rahman said at the annual prize distribution ceremony at a school in Wazirabad on Tuesday.

She said it was the moral duty of every citizen to cooperate with the government in its efforts towards the cause of education.
