President arrives in Belgium

BRUSSELS, Sept 11: President Pervez Musharraf arrived here on Monday on a four-day visit during which he will interact with European leaders on international and regional issues and also speak at a forum on Kashmir.

“I look forward to a very substantive interaction,” the president said on his arrival.

Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri, Belgian officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belgium Saeed Khalid received the president at the airport.

“Focussing on terrorism and extremism, I will speak about the realities in Pakistan, their concern about democracy and the reality on human rights,” he said at Islamabad airport about his planned address to the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament.—APP/AP

Qudssia Akhlaque adds from Islamabad: Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said the president would meet Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt and chief executive officers of Belgian companies.

He will also meet Jose Manual Barroso, President of the European Commission; Josep Borrell Fontelles, President of the European Parliament; and Javier Solana, the EU policy chief.

The president will address the opening session of the ‘Global discourse on Kashmir’.
