Grain agents plan protest

SAHIWAL, Sept 3: Punjab Grain Market Commission Agents Association has announced its protest schedule against the levy of withholding tax on bank transactions.

During a convention here on Sunday, association president Muhammad Afzal said commission agents would observe a token strike at all grain markets of the province on Sept 8 and 9 and boycott bank transactions in protest against the imposition of withholding tax by the government.

He said strike would be observed in Multan division on Sept 14, Faisalabad division (18th), Sargodha division (21st), Bahawalpur division (23rd and 24th), Lahore (28th), Gujranwala (29th), Rawalpindi (30th) and in Dera Ghazi Khan on Oct 15.

The convention was addressed by Haji Akhtar, Rai Ehsanullah, Maulvi Abdul Rehman Wattoo, Sheikh Talib Husain, Rana Abdul Qayyum, Abdul Majeed and others.

LOOTED: Robbers took away cash and valuables amounting to Rs400,000 in three hits here on Saturday night.

Reports said two bandits entered the house of woman banker Mrs Asif Zaidi in Farid Ganj locality and decamped with cash and ornaments worth Rs95,000 and $265.

In another incident, government employee Saifullah Mughal of Hujra Shah Muqeem along with his family was going by his car when five dacoits intercepted him. The accused made off with cash and ornaments from women amounting to Rs160,000.
