Police team beaten up by residents

LAHORE, Sept 1: A police team headed by an ASP was allegedly beaten up by people in the Kot Lakhpat area on Friday for responding to an emergency call hours after an incident of robbery.

However, a police spokesman claimed that there was no incident of robbery and the family concerned had called out police after a fight between two brothers.

Noor Ahmed of Mustafa Colony claimed that he called police emergency that five bandits had stormed into his house. He said when a police team led by an ASP came, the dacoits had taken away cash and valuables. The infuriated family members and neighbours had a scuffle with the police for responding so late to an emergency. .

The police have registered a case for making false call and thrashing cops against five members of Noor’s family.

CASE: A case has been registered against four policemen, including a lady constable, for harassing a girl student of a private university.

The father of the girl filed a complaint to DIG (operations) Aamir Zulifqar that his daughter and her class fellow Waqas left the university together in a rickshaw when they were stopped by a Gulberg police patrol.

The four-member police team headed by SI Rana Waheed harassed the girl and demanded money from them for their release.

Waqas and girl paid Rs2,500 and a cell phone for their release. The DIG appointed SP Model Town to probe into the matter. The SP found SI Waheed, constables Ilayas and Ramzan and lady constable Rubina guilty.

A case has been registered against them under Section 155 of the Police Order.

The police claimed that the accused had been taken into custody.

ACCIDENT: A girl died in an accident in the Nishtar Colony area.

Police said Bushra (25) was going with his father on a motorbike when a van hit them, resulting in injuries to them. They were rushed to hospital where Bushra succumbed to her injuries.

A 32-year old woman was found dead in the Lower Mall area. Police said the woman seemed to be an addict. The body was sent to city morgue.
