PESHAWAR, Aug 29: The People’s Party Parliamentarians has condemned the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and said military dictators and Pakistan cannot coexist in the present era of development and democracy.

Talking to journalists at the press club here on Monday, provincial party president Rahimdad Khan alleged that military generals had been trying to resolve political issues through use of force. He observed that the dismemberment of Pakistan in 1971 was a result of this policy, and the military rulers were repeating the same mistake.

He held intelligence agencies responsible for the killing of Nawab Bugti. He said Nawab Bugti was a martyr, who was opposed to the military rule in the country.

He criticised ministers of state Aneesa Tahirkheli and Azeem Tariq and some other members of the cabinet for their remarks on the killing of Akbar Bugti.

Mr Khan warned that the incident could lead to a civil war in the country.

He announced that the party had postponed the election for the PPP women’s wing and People’s Youth, scheduled for Aug 30 and Aug 31, respectively, in the wake of the tragic incident.

After the “judicial murder of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto”, he said, the killing of Nawab Bugti was another blow to the integrity of the country.

He said Nawab Bugti had been pushed against the wall and he had no option but to launch an armed struggle against the government.

He said Nawab Bugti was a patriot and he had never left the country even during the most difficult days.

The PPP leader said that one person was running the affairs of the country who had “introduced a rubber-stamp parliament and imposed a powerless and ineffective person” as a prime minister on the country.

He said the PPP was a part of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy and it would follow the political line of action set by the alliance in connection with Nawab Bugti’s killing.
