HYDERABAD, Feb 11: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) announced here on Monday that the college teachers would observe a protest day in the province on Feb 12 against the policies of the Education department.

In a statement, Prof Tariq Qureshi, a spokesman for the SPLA, said that the decision had been taken by a committee of the association.

He said that black flags would be hoisted on the college buildings and the college teachers would boycott the classes and hold protest meetings.

The spokesman said that the demands of the SPLA included withdrawal of the Sindh cabinet decision to privatize the educational institutions, illegal merger of government and nationalized cadre of college teachers, withdrawal of show cause notice issued to the Karachi region president, appointment of a junior teacher as EDO, Karachi, removal of Sukkur EDO, issuance of a notification about the promotions and move over of the college teachers, permanent appointment of principals in colleges, fixation of Rs300 as computer fee from the next year like Punjab and withdrawal of the transfer orders of teachers during the running academic session.

Mr Qureshi said that the SPLA had also demanded that 42 vacant posts in grade-20, 275 in grade-19, 529 posts in grade-18 and 1014 posts in grade-17 should be filled.
