SUKKUR, Aug 16: The peak flood of the season is expected to cross the Sukkur Barrage by Thursday afternoon. The water level at the Guddu Barrage was decreasing and a fall of 55,000 cusecs has been recorded there.

On Wednesday, the flow upstream of the Guddu Barrage was 521,000 cusecs and downstream 495,000 cusecs.

The Sukkur Barrage upstream was 554,000 cusecs and downstream 513,000 cusecs.

The water level at the Kotri Barrage was on the constant rise. It was about 212,000 cusecs upstream and 205,000 cusecs downstream.

Irrigation sources said that protective bunds in Sindh were intact and no untoward incident so far had taken place.

Sukkur DCO Shafiq Khoso said the main flow of flood water was passing through the Sukkur Barrage and protective bunds in the district were safe and sound.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Wednesday, he said that efforts were under way to provide relief to flood affected people at relief camps.

The DCO said the decision of evacuation of residents of Bunder Wall area was taken to save people from any eventuality.

Our Nawabshah Correspondent adds: About 290,000 cusecs water was passing along the Mud bund of the Indus River on Wednesday.

The executive engineer of the Dad irrigation division, Rasheed Khoso, said that maximum flow of 500,000 cusecs would pass from the bund on August 18.

He said that the situation was satisfactory as possible measures had been taken to handle any flood emergency.

EDO (health) Dr Khaliq Mangnejo said that relief centres had been set up along the bund where all emergency medicines were available.

The people of nearby villages told reporters that they were living in the area since long and had not vacated the place in a situation of super floods.
