PESHAWAR, Aug 16: Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan has accepted the resignation of ANP leader Mohammad Azam Khan Hoti from the party’s offices.

Mr Hoti tendered resignation citing health as the main reason.

Mr Hoti, who had served as federal communications minister in the Nawaz Sharif cabinet, resigned from the central and provincial executive committees and also quit the office of commander-in-chief of the Nangialai Pukhtun (ANP’s youth wing).

A party press release, issued from the Bacha Khan Markaz on Wednesday, said that the party’s president had accepted the resignation of Mr Hoti.

However, Mr Hoti would continue to remain a member of the party, said the release.

Sources said that Mr Hoti was perturbed by the apparent move to re-elect Asfandyar Wali Khan for the third time as ANP chief through an amendment in the party’s constitution.

Mr Hoti had felt being let down when he was removed from the party’s provincial parliamentary board despite having lent his support to Mr Khan following the replacement of his sister Begum Nasim Wali Khan as provincial president of the party.
