HYDERABAD, Aug 15: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has decided to observe a black day in 238 colleges of the province on August 17, in protest against a government ban on teachers’ associations.

The decision in this connection was taken at a meeting of a high-powered committee of the association held here on Tuesday.

The meeting made it clear that there would be no interruption in academic activities and college teachers would take classes while wearing black arm bands, hoist black flags on college buildings and hold protest meetings.

URS: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that Sindh is the land of Sufis and religious leaders who had rendered great services for Islam.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day annual Urs of Hazrat Shah Ilyas Jilani, popularly known as Jeay Shah in Moosa Khatian village on Sunday.

He said that the services of Jeay Shah in the cause of Islam could never be forgotten.

A large number of nazims, naib nazims, councillors and people attended the inaugural ceremony.

He said that like urban talukas, the problems of people of the rural taluka would also be resolved.

He said that the rural people would be provided all basic facilities.

He said that not a single village of the rural taluka would remain without electricity, roads, healthcare, education, clean drinking water and recreational spots.

He pledged to serve all the people without any discrimination. He distributed awards among organisers of Urs, Faqirs, best sportsmen and those who had set up best stalls.
