SUKKUR, Aug 11: The right guide bank of the Guddu barrage and several embankments along the Indus river including the KK bund, Ghora Ghat bund and Tori bund are under tremendous pressure due to flood water.

The flash flood carrying 650,000 to 700,000 cusec water would pass through the Guddu barrage within next 24 hours.

The Qadirpur loop bund was under tremendous pressure and almost 100 per cent the kutcha area in the Ghotki district was under water.

Affected villagers have been shifted to safer places while further evacuation is under way.

The water level was on the constant rise and posing threat to protective bunds.

Besides, Ruk spur bund, Mandodero bund and Bunder Wall in Sukkur were also under pressure.

The flood water has entered into katcha houses along the Bunder Wall and inhabitants have been asked to move to safer places.

On Friday evening, water flow at upstream of the Guddu barrage was recorded at 474,747 cusec and downstream 454,496 cusec.

The Sukkur barrage upstream was 306,700 cusec and downstream 258,900 cusec.

The Kotri barrage upstream was 139,800 cusec and downstream 121,800 cusec.

About 45 villages of the Kashmore district came under water.

Some of them are: Muhkumuddin Solangi, Sadiq Mazari, Manzoor Chachar, Zangi Mazari, Mithoo Shar, Imam Bux Shar, Dost Ali Kosh, Nazar Mohammad Kosh, Rano Seelro, Haji Khan Shar and Ghel Pur.

More troops reached at Buxapur, Budani, Ghora Ghat, and Tori Bungalow for flood emergency duty.

The army evacuated people stranded in flood water with the help of 20 boats and motor boats.

The remaining people have taken shelter at embankments and other places.

Pano Akil GOC Maj-Gen Mumtaz Bajwah visited the Guddu barrage where the chief engineer of the barrage, Abbas Leghari, briefed him about the flood situation.

The GOC also visited vulnerable protective bunds including the KK bund, Qadirpur loop bund and others.

He was told about the current situation and steps taken to over come it.

On the occasion, he said that the army was monitoring the flood situation and was busy in evacuating people stranded in villages surrounded by flood water.

Mr Bajwah said that assets of the army were in place to provide security and relief to civilians.

“Army troops are ready to evacuate the people in case the situation so arises during the current flood period”, he said.

CCI: Chief of the Sindh National Front, Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, has said the federal government was out to ruin Sindh with the help of Muttahida Qaumi Movement adding that the differences between the Sindh government and MQM cropped up over distribution of loot and plunder.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, he said that the members of the Council of Common Interests consisted of people with vested interests who think least about the welfare of Sindh.

He demanded of the government to include nationalists from Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP in the CCI as they were the true representatives of the people.
