ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas Tahir Iqbal has said that Rs100,000 each would be given to the families of those who perished during the recent rains in the Northern Areas (NAs) adding that all possible assistance would be provided to the injured persons.

Expressing grief over the loss of 14 precious lives the minister said that flood-warning and emergency relief centres would be established in every district of the areas to avoid losses in future.

He said that relief and rehabilitation package was being prepared for all those who faced financial and property losses during the torrential rains and following devastations.

The minister said district-wise damage assessment was being carried out. “I have directed the local administration to take immediate steps for clearing up blocked roads and rectification of damaged infrastructure to facilitate the rehabilitation of the flood affected people,” he added.—Our Reporter
