QUETTA, Aug 9: A division bench of Balochistan High Court has issued notices to State Bank of Pakistan, Habib Bank Ltd and Faisal Bank on the petition filed by Senator Shahid Hasan Bugti, secretary-general of Jamhoori Watan Party challenging the freezing of his account. The bench comprising of Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani on Wednesday directed that notices be issued to the banks for reply and fixed next hearing for Aug 17. The petitioner submitted that the management of Habib Bank and Faisal Bank did not entertain his cheques stating that the State Bank had frozen his accounts on July 22 without specifying any reason.

DISTRICT NAZIM: Sardar Naseer Musiani on Wednesday retook the charge of the Khuzdar district nazim from the officiating nazim following a Supreme Court order suspending a Balochistan High Court decision and a notification of the Balochistan government.

The provincial government had issued a notification on April 22 that it had accepted the ‘resignation’ of Mr Musiani, though the nazim, backed by Balochistan National Party (Mengal group), had denied having resigned.

Mr Musiani had filed a petition in the high court against the provincial government notification, which the court had rejected. He then had filed a petition in the apex court praying to set aside the high court verdict and the provincial government notification.

A two-member bench of the Supreme Court at Quetta suspended the lower court decision and the Balochistan government notification.

It may be recalled that the Khuzdar District Council, under the local government ordinance, had elected Mir Abdur Rahim Kurd officiating nazim on May 2.
