LAGOS, Aug 8: Six players of Nigerian non-league club Wunti FC of Bauchi, died in a car accident in northern Nigerian.

Secretary-general of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Fanny Amun confirmed the accident, saying that it occurred in Durum near Bauchi when Wunti were on their way to Kano for a national amateur league fixture against Bank of the North Football Club.

Wunti were one of Nigeria's leading sides before the advent of professional football in the country in 1990.

Cash-strapped clubs in Nigeria often travel across the country by road for their away matches and this has exposed them to accidents and armed robbery attacks.—AFP
