LAHORE, Aug 8: Robbers shot dead a mother of four and injured a policeman in two incidents in the city on Tuesday. Reports said Muhammad Arshad was going by a motorcycle along with his wife Safia Bibi when three armed men stopped them near central park in Kahna. They opened fire on Safia when she put up resistance. She suffered injuries and was taken to hospital where she died.

In another incident, the police signalled two motorcyclists at a picket in Riwaz Garden. They, however, opened fire on the men in uniform and sped away. Head Constable Maqbool Ahmad suffered injuries and was admitted to Mayo Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical. Meanwhile, the police claimed to have arrested one of the motorcyclists, identifying him as Shakeel Ahmad.

Naseer Ahmad was on way home after drawing Rs80,000 from a bank when two armed men stopped him near New Campus and deprived him of the amount, cell phone and a credit card.

Ex-student leader: A former MSF student leader was shot dead in Shahdara on Tuesday.

Muhammad Shahid, who was a Muslim Student Federation leader in the Shahdara Degree College during his student days, was on his way by his car when unidentified men intercepted him near Maqbra Chowk and sprayed him with bullets. He died on the spot.

A police source said he had a quarrel with his house owner over some issue and suspected that she (house owner) was behind his murder.

Shahid was a real estate dealer and left behind a widow and five children.

In another incident, a man shot dead his son-in-law in Chuhng on Tuesday.

Police said Safdar, 25, had married the daughter of Bashir against his will. On Tuesday, Bashir came to his house and opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
