KHAIRPUR, Aug 4: Hundreds of people from Waris Gambhir village and surrounding area blocked the National Highway near the Therhi bypass on Thursday night in protest against excesses of the motorway police.

Aijaz Seelro, Hussain Bux Gambhir, Qambar Gambhir and Aijaz Magsi led the protesters.

The protesters burnt tyres and held a demonstration closing the highway for about two hours.

They raised slogans against the motorway police.

Police reached the spot and urged protesters to end protest but they refused to open the road.

The protesters said that officials of the motorway police used to take meals daily at the Sarfaraz hotel without paying bills.—Correspondent
