PESHAWAR, Aug 3: Writers and poets paid tribute to the late renowned Urdu and Hindko poet Jalil Hashmi at a literary gathering held at the library hall of the Urdu Science Board here on Thursday.

The function was held under the auspices of the Pakistan Academy of Letters Peshawar chapter.

Veteran poet and writer Yousaf Raja Chishti presided over the function and Mukhtar Ali Nayyer was the chief guest.

Senior writers, poets and intellectuals, including Zaitoon Bano, Sheen Shaukat and Malik Arshad Hussain, highlighted services of the late Hashmi in the field of literature.

They said he was a poet of high calibre who had served the Hindko and Urdu literature through out his life with devotion.

They said he had used his pen for the betterment of humanity and his teachings were a beacon for the new generation.

They said he had never compromised on his principles or worked for his personal interests.—PPI
