MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 2: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Amanullah Khan on Wednesday said the Kashmiris’ right of self-determination and the geographical and political integrity of their state were facing severe threat.

“Efforts are under way to sacrifice Kashmiris’ right of self-determination at the altar of the so-called doctrine of ‘give and take’ with continuing attempts to change the Line of Control into international border between India and Pakistan,” he said in a statement.

“The most unfortunate aspect of the matter was that most Kashmiri leaders on both sides of the LoC were ready to go to any extent to please and appease their masters in New Delhi and Islamabad,” he added.

He criticised the policies of the two countries regarding Kashmir as unjust and unfair.

“India continues to treat Kashmir as its integral part and hopes that time itself will solve the issue to her advantage whereas Pakistan has abandoned even its so-called ‘principled stand’ on the issue under pressure from self-created problems and is trying to get whatever it can of the Indian-held territory,” he said.

Mr Khan recalled that moves to divide Kashmir on the basis of the doctrine of ‘give and take’ started as far back as during Indo-Pakistan ministerial talks of 1962-63 and even the India-Pakistan agreements of 1972, 1999 and 2004.—Correspondent
