SUKKUR, Aug 2: Three people were arrested following the murder of the district president of the PPP-SB at Jeay Shah Chowk in Old Sukkur on Tuesday night.

According to reports, district PPP-SB president Lala Yasir Pathan had a scuffle with Shafqat Pathan over jurisdiction of the cable network. After an exchange of hot words, Shafqat allegedly opened fire, injuring Lala Yasir and his cousin, Salman Pathan. Lala Yasir died on the way to the Sukkur Civil Hospital and his cousin was admitted to the hospital.

Later, the C-section police registered a case against five people, including Shafqat Pathan alias Shaukat, Qamar and Rahim Bux Solangi. Shafqat Pathan, Qamar and Rahim Bux were arrested.

INJURED: A man was injured in an armed clash between Chachar and Sundrani tribesmen in the Juma Sundrani village near Qadir Pur, Ghotki district, on Wednesday.

A group of armed Chachar tribesmen allegedly attacked the village and opened indiscriminate fire. Sundrani tribesmen also retaliated.

Bahawal Din Sundrani was injured in the firing that continued for about three hours. He was taken to a local hospital.

The incident is said to be the result of an old enmity.

LIFE TERM: The Anti-Terrorism Court-II, Sukkur and Larkana bench, here on Wednesday sentenced a man to eight times life imprisonment and fined him Rs600,000 for killing three policemen.

The convict was identified as Abid Ali Jatoi. Co-accused Muharam Ali Chandio was acquitted in the case. Abid Jatoi had attacked a police post at Mitho Indhar in the Sukkur district on Dec 14, 2000, and opened fire, killing policemen Banhoon Khan, Rano Khan and Mohammad Suleman.
