KARACHI: A woman who had been missing with her two minor daughters for the past three days was found dead in a water main near Dumba Goth on Friday, officials said.
Malir Cantonment SHO Agha Abdul Rasheed said the woman’s body was found floating in the main line, which carries water from Keenjhar Lake. He said it appeared that the woman had drowned elsewhere and the strong flow of water had carried her body to the area. The body was entangled in a net installed in the water line.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. The deceased was identified as Haseena, 30.
The officer said her two daughters, aged four years and one-and-a-half years, were still missing. He added that it later emerged that a missing person’s report had been lodged at the Memon Goth police station, following which the investigation was handed over to Malir Cantonment police.
Memon Goth SHO Ayub Mirani said that three days ago, a man identified as Qadir Bux had visited the police station and reported that he and his wife had quarrelled over a domestic issue. During a heated argument, he had slapped his wife, after which she left their home in Memon Goth with their two minor daughters.
He said police had deployed lifeguards to search for the missing girls at various points along the water supply line, extending up to Gulshan-i-Iqbal, but the children could not be traced.
The SHO said there was a farmhouse in the area off the Superhighway, and police were trying to obtain its CCTV footage to establish whether the woman had jumped into the water line along with her daughters or whether someone had thrown them into it.
He added that, on the complaint of the woman’s father, police had detained her husband, Qadir Bux, for interrogation. They were awaiting the doctors’ post-mortem examination report before proceeding further with the case.
