Have you ever imagined what would happen if Tom and Jerry travelled through time and landed in a magical world?

In Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass, our favourite cat-and-mouse duo embark on a journey filled with mystery, laughter, danger and surprises.

This 104-minute animated adventure celebrates the franchise’s 85th anniversary. Yes, it has been that many years since William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created the first Tom and Jerry cartoon! Our parents and even their parents have watched Tom and Jerry, but this movie is different. It is the franchise’s first fully computer-animated feature film, blending comedy, fantasy and action.

The story begins in the present, when Tom and Jerry accidentally activate an ancient magical compass while chasing each other through a museum. As you might expect, that little chase leads to big trouble! The compass transports them through time to a mysterious world inspired by ancient Chinese culture and mythology.

When they arrive in the Golden City, the residents mistake them for gods! Tom is in no hurry to correct them. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy a little royal treatment? His newfound fame also attracts the attention of Jade, a beautiful white-furred opera cat.

Meanwhile, the magical Phoenix Master, who has searched for the compass for 300 years, faces his enemy, Mega-Rat, who tries to recruit Jerry. Poor Jerry! Even in a magical world, trouble follows him!

The movie is a visual treat, featuring colourful animation, Chinese-inspired costumes, magical creatures, dragons and spectacular fireworks. It also offers a glimpse into Chinese folklore, architecture and traditional opera. However, unlike the classic cartoons, it focuses more on fantasy, action and music than on the hilarious chases and pranks we all know and love.

The biggest surprise is seeing Tom and Jerry set aside their differences and work together. Who knew these two could make such a great team? Their adventure reminds us that friendship, courage, kindness and teamwork can help us overcome even the toughest challenges.

Overall, Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass is a fun-filled family adventure with beautiful animation and valuable life lessons. Although I missed a few classic cat-and-mouse tricks, it was enjoyable to see our favourite troublemakers explore a magical new world.
