SWAT: The Rahimabad police on Thursday arrested two suspects, both serving police constables, in connection with the alleged gang rape of a woman who had travelled to Swat from Peshawar.
According to police, a Peshawar resident lodged a complaint last night, accusing two unidentified motorcyclists of sexually assaulting her.
Taking immediate notice of the complaint, Swat DPO Umar Khan directed police to arrest the suspects.
Rahimabad SHO Zahidullah Khan, along with his team, traced and arrested both suspects using CCTV footage.
The detainees were identified as Wahid Mahmood of Alladand in Batkhela and Mohammad Ghazanfar of Chamkani in Peshawar.
Police said both of them served as their constables.
According to initial investigation, the suspects allegedly took the woman and her husband to a hotel room, where they “sexually assaulted” her. They also threatened to kill the woman if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
Police said both suspects had been taken into custody for further investigation.
When contacted, DPO Swat Umar Khan confirmed that both suspects were serving police constables. He, however, said the detainees had allegedly committed the crime when they were not on duty.
“We have arrested both suspects, registered an FIR against them and initiated a departmental inquiry. If the allegations are proved, strict legal and departmental action will be taken against them,” he said.
