KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has asked the transport department to finalise suitable routes for the double-decker and electric buses arriving in the metropolis later this month.

Chairing a meeting here on Wednesday, he instructed the transport officials that routes, charging stations, depots, bus stops and other technical and administrative arrangements for the operation of double-decker and electric buses be finalised.

He said major roads, commercial centres, educational institutions and residential areas should be given special consideration while determining the routes.

According to a press release, the meeting discussed arrangements for the routes of the double-decker and electric buses, construction work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line and Yellow Line projects and the operations of Green Line.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Memon said that along with increasing the number of buses, it was equally important to make their routes and operational systems effective.

Efforts should be made to ensure that double-decker and electric buses reach those areas of the city where citizens have a greater need for public transport, he added.

The meeting also decided to open a U-turn constructed for Red Line on University Road to facilitate commuters.

The minister directed the officials that extraordinary measures be taken to ensure the timely completion of the Red Line project.

He also instructed that work on Depot 1 and Depot 2 of the Yellow Line be completed on a priority basis.

He said that construction work on the second section of the Taj Haider Bridge should also be completed soon. All relevant officials should monitor construction activities on a daily basis, he added.
