The weekly weird

This is with reference to the news “Singapore fines passengers for spoiling public buses”, published in The Weekly Weird (YW, October 17).

I believe strict fines are an effective way to promote cleanliness and civic responsibility. Singapore and Hong Kong are examples of how penalties for littering and violating public-space rules can help maintain clean cities. Cities across Pakistan should adopt a similar approach.

I particularly urge the Mayor of Sukkur to introduce a pilot programme in one Model Union Council, with appropriate fines, public awareness campaigns and consistent enforcement. If successful, the programme could be extended across the city.

Cleanliness is not merely a slogan; it requires responsible behaviour and effective action.

Meeting the girl I once was

This refers to the story “Meeting the girl I once was” by Mariam Usman (YW, September 26).

The story showed how deeply bullying can affect a child, even when they try to hide their pain behind a smile. Every child deserves to feel safe and accepted at school, and no one should have to face loneliness or humiliation.

I hope we learn to be kinder to others because we never know what someone might be going through.

Manga, anime and everything in between

This is regarding the cover article “Manga, anime and everything in between” by Asif Ali (YW, September 26).

I have watched anime for years, but learning its basics through this article was really interesting.

This article made me appreciate the art and creativity behind something I already enjoyed watching.

II

Whenever someone mentions anime, people often think of colourful characters, dramatic battles and unusual hairstyles. But the cover article “Manga, anime and everything in between” by Asif Ali helped me see how much more there is to this world.

I found the history of manga interesting, especially how artists use panels, close-ups and expressions to tell a story. The article has inspired me to try drawing my favourite characters and perhaps even create one of my own.

It was an enjoyable read to understand why manga and anime have such a huge following.

Human bondage

Law enforcement and political quarters are notorious for protecting the perpetrators, instead of ensuring legal implementation. Systemic coercion will keep Pakistan from becoming a humane state.
