KHYBER: Members of District Press Club Landi Kotal ended their boycott of police functions after the Khyber police apologised for the ‘unwarranted’ raid on the press club building on Oct 25.

Representatives of the civil society in Landi Kotal played their role in ending the differences between journalists and police officials by arranging a jirga at the press club on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, former tehsil chairman Shah Khalid, Khyber Siyasi Ittehad president Murad Hussain, former Bara Press Club president Khadim Afridi and Fazlur Rehman said that no compromise would be made on the dignity and honour of the press club as it played an important role in highlighting the problems of local communities.

They, however, said that all the thorny issues were resolved through jirga mediations as per the tribal traditions and thus the apology of the police was also accepted in the same spirit.

They said that police and journalists could play an effective role in ensuring peace and harmony in the society while focusing on the resolution of genuine problems of the people.

Landi Kotal police raided the district press club on Oct 25 after some local Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders addressed a press conference there.

Journalists said that they were given no prior notice about the raid to arrest the PTI workers.
