KARACHI: A young man was shot dead by robbers in front of his father in Surjani Town on Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Muhammad Khalil, but said he was killed over personal enmity.

However, the victim’s father, Afzal Khan, disputed the police version and told the media that he, along with his son and brother, was heading to Sachal Goth in a rickshaw when armed motorcyclists intercepted the three-wheeler near Memon Society, ostensibly with the intention of committing a robbery.

As they did not stop, the robbers opened fire and a bullet hit his son in the head and he died on the spot, he said.

He said they had no enmity with anyone.

The victim originally hailed from Muzaffargarh.

Robbers loot cell phones from cricket players

Three armed robbers looted mobile phones and other valuables from teenage cricket players in Manzoor Colony, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place within the remit of the Baloch Colony police station late on Monday night.

A police officer said the teenagers were playing a night cricket match in Sector-F when three armed robbers held them hostage at gunpoint and took away their mobile phones.

He said the robbery victims had only reported the incident to the police but did not lodge an FIR. He claimed three cell phones were snatched. Investigators have obtained CCTV footage and are working to unearth the identity of the criminals.
