ISLAMABAD: Communication Minister Abdul Aleem Khan on Sunday said the expansion of Faisalabad-Pindi-Bhattian Motorway (M4) (from 4 to 6 lanes) will be completed by the start of next year.

“By ensuring timely completion of the M-4 expansion project, the government would present the people of Faisalabad with a modern motorway as a new year gift,” the minister said while paying a visit to the project.

Mr Khan said he has fulfilled a long-standing demand of the people of Faisalabad, pending for the past 30 years, as work was progressing rapidly on the 53-kilometre expansion project of the Faisalabad-Pindi-Bhattian section of the M4 Motorway, which was being upgraded from four to six lanes.

He said M4 Motorway would be transformed into a state-of-the-art highway, with trees planted along both sides, green belts developed in the central section and date palm trees added to enhance its landscape and beautiful rest areas will also be established to facilitate commuters travelling between Pindi Bhattian and Faisalabad.

During his visit to the Kamalpur Interchange on the M4 Motorway expansion project, he inspected the ongoing construction work and issued on-the-spot instructions to the officials concerned.

The minister said the expansion of the M4 Motorway would help ease traffic congestion, make travelling safer and more convenient and prevent road accidents.

He paid tribute to Motorway Police personnel who had sacrificed their lives while performing their duties adding that a key objective of the project was to ensure safe travelling facilities for both commuters and Motorway Police personnel.

The minister directed authorities concerned to increase the number of machinery units and workforce to accelerate construction activities.

He made it clear that while timely completion was essential no compromise would be tolerated on construction quality. He said since all project funds had been arranged by the National Highway Authority through its own resources, there should be no reason for any delay in completion of the project.

The minister also directed that the beautification of the Motorway should meet modern standards. He also instructed the authorities to ensure complete lighting arrangements along the Pindi-Bhattian-Faisalabad section of the Motorway and finalise designs of rest areas within one week to facilitate travellers.
