PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Khyber Pakhtunkhwa parliamentary party on Friday condemned the move to revert 12 districts of the province to the colonial administrative system and expressed concern over “conspiracies” to roll back the merger of Fata with the province.

PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan chaired the online meeting of parliamentarians, who also expressed serious reservations over the imposition of emergency in the province and the administrative separation of 12 districts from the rest of the province.

The meeting was also attended by PTI provincial general secretary Ali Asghar Khan and acting provincial president Noorul Haq Qadri.

During a detailed discussion on the current political, constitutional and administrative situation in the province, the lawmakers condemned the “reversal” of the 12 districts to the colonial-era administrative system.

Vows to continue opposing any such step

They vowed to continue opposing such steps, which they said were against the Constitution.

“The meeting decided that a joint jirga would be convened by inviting tribal elders and other political parties at which a unanimous course of action would be prepared through consultation,” read the declaration issued after the meeting.

The participants also expressed concern over the crackdown on the PTI MNAs, MPAs, office-bearers, workers and supporters and agreed to continue their struggle against the “unconstitutional” steps at all available forums besides intensifying efforts for the restoration of the constitutional and democratic system in the province.

They condemned “political vendetta in the garb of measures against terrorism”, raids on the houses of party workers, arrests and detentions under the MPO and the removal of PTI flags and plaques of development projects.

The meeting demanded that those actions be stopped immediately and that political workers be provided with their constitutional and legal rights.

It expressed grave concern over the health of PTI founder Imran Khan and demanded authentic information about his health, immediate access to him, and permission for his family and lawyers to meet him.

The meeting demanded immediate justice for Imran Khan’s wife, the release of his sisters and the provision of all legal and human rights to the family.

It condemned the alleged unconstitutional detention or arrests of former chief minister Sohail Afridi, KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and other elected representatives and demanded their immediate release and the restoration of free political activities.

The parliamentary party expressed full confidence in the leadership of Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and made it clear that there was no division of any kind within the party.

All political and organisational matters of the party would be carried forward in accordance with the instructions of founding chairman Imran Khan, mutual consultation and collective decisions.

The participants also decided that the KP provincial parliamentary party would be effectively represented in the protest movement, negotiation process or any future political strategy.

They decided that meetings of the parliamentary party would be held regularly, public rights and development projects would be protected, and a joint struggle would continue for respect for the public mandate, the supremacy of the Constitution and the restoration of the democratic system.
