SUKKUR: A police constable was shot dead by unidentified armed men at Rustam Chowk, within the jurisdiction of the New Faujdari police station in Shikarpur, on Thursday.

According to initial reports, Constable Nihal Brohi was on his way to the police lines from the District and Sessions Court, where he had attended a hearing, when assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him. He sustained gunshot wounds and died at the scene, while the attackers fled.

Police rushed to the scene and shifted the body to the RBUT Civil Hospital for a post-mortem.

Officials said the area had been cordoned off and a search operation launched for the fleeing assailants. Additional police personnel were also deployed in the area.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s father, Muhammad Umar Brohi, alleged that armed men belonging to the Marfani community had killed his son in revenge for the death of a dacoit.

Police said an investigation had been launched and efforts were under way to apprehend the killers.
