SWABI: Police on Wednesday arrested two TikTokers for displaying weapons in videos uploaded to social media, an official said.

Kalu Khan police station SHO Haroon Khan said the arrests were made after the videos went viral on social media.

He said Saqib Khan, in charge of Azamabad police post, along with other police personnel, arrested Zohaib Khan and Waqar Khan, residents of Mian Kallay Mansoori, for displaying weapons and uploading videos to attract viewers. The police also recovered the weapons from their possession.

Swabi police spokesperson Liaqat Ali told Dawn that the action was being taken on the directives of District Police Officer Waqas Rafiq to prevent TikTokers from uploading videos that encouraged young people to take up arms.

He said the crackdown would continue against those displaying weapons on social media, as the trend had a negative impact on society, particularly young people.

Meanwhile, a local court on Wednesday convicted two men in a murder case and sentenced them to prison.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Aamir Anjum announced the verdict, sentencing Aftab Muhammad to life imprisonment and Bilal Sher to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.

The court also ordered Aftab Muhammad to pay Rs2 million in compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased.
