LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Multan Zone claimed on Tuesday to have arrested six suspects, including two proclaimed offenders, in separate cases involving alleged work visa fraud and issuance of Pakistani computerised national identity cards (CNICs) to Afghan nationals.

According to FIA Multan spokesperson, four suspects were arrested by the Multan Composite Circle in cases involving alleged fraud in arranging employment visas for Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Belarus and Spain, while two suspects were arrested by the Bahawalpur Composite Circle in a case concerning issuance of Pakistani CNICs to Afghan nationals.

On Oct 27, the FIA arrested proclaimed offender Muhammad Imran, a resident of Vehari district, in a case registered by the Multan anti-human trafficking circle (AHTC). The suspect allegedly received Rs800,000 from a complainant on the promise of arranging a Saudi Arabia work visa but he neither fulfilled the commitment nor returned the money.

A day earlier, the FIA arrested Zeeshan Akram, also a resident of Vehari, for allegedly receiving Rs300,000 to arrange a Dubai work visa. However, FIA claimed that he failed to fulfil the commitment or refund the amount.

On Oct 26, the Bahawalpur FIA Composite Circle arrested proclaimed offender Qamar Zaman, a resident of Khanpur in Rahim Yar Khan district, for allegedly receiving Rs900,000 from a complainant to arrange employment visas for his two sons for Iraq but failed to fulfil the commitment.

On Oct 20, the agency arrested Munawar Ali, a resident of Mailsi tehsil in Vehari district. The suspect, along with his accomplices, was accused of defrauding a complainant of Rs75.1 million through bank transactions on the pretext of arranging work visas for Belarus and Spain.

The FIA said the visas were not arranged and the money was not returned.

Meanwhile, the Bahawalpur FIA Composite Circle arrested Asif Bashir and Shahzad Ahmad on Oct 21 for their alleged involvement in issuing Pakistani CNICs to Afghan nationals.
