ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), the National Heritage and Culture Division and representatives of other ministries concerned are finalising proposals for the operation and maintenance of Yadgar-i-Fatah Monument.
The monument was built in Sector H-8 to mark Pakistan’s victory over India in the May 2025 conflict. It was inaugurated on the Independence Day.
Sources said that now arrangements were being finalised for its operation and maintenance (O&M).
Matters related to the O&M of the building were discussed on Monday by the CDA board. The sources said the CDA chairman and board members were of the view that the monument was a source of pride of the entire nation and the civic agency will extend its full cooperation and play its due role for its operations and maintenance.
Three options under discussions, which will be placed before federal govt, says official
The sources said hours after the board meeting, another meeting was held at the National Heritage and Culture Division, which was also attended by officers of CDA and the ministries of law, finance and others.
The sources said that on the direction of the federal government, the organisations were working for the permanent O&M of the historical monument.
The Heritage Division has already conducted several meetings on it. The sources said three options were under discussions, which will be placed before the federal government.
It was also being discussed that a managing board should be formed, which will have representatives from the CDA, Heritage Division and other concerned ministries.
Under one of the options, the CDA should be asked to take full responsibility. “All concerned departments are on one page for better take care of this national asset. Soon, a proposal with three options will be shared with the federal government,” said a source in the federal government.
The marble monument was completed within eight months and features five archways, which represent the five pillars of Islam, as well as the five pillars of Pakistan itself — the government, the military, the media, the people and the ideology underpinning the nation.
Additionally, they represent the three branches of the military — the Army, the Air Force and the Navy — as well as cyber-defence and space warfare. This structure symbolises Pakistan’s resolve and determination and the domination of armed forces over the enemy.
It is relevant to note here that India in May last year launched attacks on Pakistani civilians and in response, Pakistan’s ground forces and Air Force gave a befitting reply to the aggression, shooting down India’s at least six fighter jets, besides destroying their military installations.
