PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday said that steering the province towards development and eliminating terrorism were among the top priorities of the government.

The governor said the provincial government had become dysfunctional and discontinued all engagement with the federal government. “When you sit down with someone, you should present your position with sound arguments and try to convince them,” he added.

He made these remarks while speaking to the media after meeting the prime minister’s adviser on interior affairs, Pervez Khattak, at Manki Sharif in Nowshera. The meeting focused on the prevailing political situation in the country, political developments in the province and other matters of mutual interest.

Mr Kundi said that the biggest-ever Apex Committee meeting in the history of the provincial capital was held, which was attended by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir along with their teams.

He said the province’s case was presented before the leadership, following which the federal government announced a development package for the province and resolved the wheat issue.

The governor said the federal government owed funds to the province under the National Finance Commission (NFC) award, clarifying that the Rs160 billion development package was separate from these allocations. He expressed hope that the outstanding NFC funds would be released soon.

He said that the federal government had assured that the funds would be issued whenever demanded, adding that there was no reason for stopping provincial funds or halting development activities.

The governor also said that all political leaders and advisers would be taken along to work for the development of the province and welfare of the people.
