QUETTA: Health authorities, political leaders and medical experts paid tribute to polio workers and security personnel who sacrificed their lives in the fight against the disease, urging sustained efforts to make Pakistan polio-free.

Speaking at a World Polio Day gathering presided over by Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, the participants lauded the Emergency Operations Centre over zero polio cases during the past two years and recording negative environmental samples.

He described the progress as a collective achievement involving polio workers, security personnel, religious scholars and journalists.

He highlighted ongoing healthcare reforms and digitalisation of health facilities.

Ex-chief minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch urged people to reject elements targeting polio teams.

Health Secretary Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Panizai, EOC Coordinator Inam-ul-Haq, DG Health Dr Aminullah Mandokhail, EPI Coordinator Dr Aftab Kakar and representatives of international organisations also reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating polio.
