LAHORE: A sessions court on Saturday denied post-arrest bail to a young man in a case of bank robbery allegedly inspired by the PUBG online game.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sarfraz Ahmad heard the bail petition of the suspect, Subhan Ali.

South Cantonment police had registered the first information report (FIR) on charges of robbing a bank in Bhatta Chowk area of Rs700,000 after receiving a task while playing PUBG. He reportedly went to his under-construction house after the robbery.

Police said they had seized the allegedly looted money, a vehicle and crime weapon from the suspect’s house.

In his order, the judge noted that the offence against the suspect falls within the prohibitory clause of Section 497 CrPC and prima facie sufficient incriminating material was available on record to connect the suspect with the commission of offence.

Besides other arguments, the defence counsel had also taken a plea that the suspect was mentally ill and suffering from psychotic disorder. However, the judge rejected this plea, saying nothing was available on record to suggest that the suspect was declared mentally unsound or challenged by any competent forum.
