Movie review: Storm on Sesame Street

When storms strike, we often wish a superhero would swoop in to save the day. But what if the real heroes are our parents, teachers, neighbours or friends who lend a helping hand?

Storm on Sesame Street reminds us that courage, kindness and teamwork can be superpowers, too!

This 30-minute Netflix special brings our favourite Sesame Street characters together to help children understand their feelings during a storm.

It teaches them that being scared is perfectly normal and that being brave doesn’t mean being fearless. It means asking for help, staying safe and taking things one step at a time. The special also highlights the importance of preparing for severe weather, following safety advice and helping others.

What makes the story special is how the characters care for one another. Elmo and his friends bring laughter and comfort during a difficult time. Ernie and Bert receiving support from Abby and Tango shows how much even a little kindness can mean.

The special features familiar characters voiced by their regular performers, including Ryan Dillon as Elmo, Leslie Carrara-Rudolph as Abby Cadabby and Tango, Matt Vogel as Big Bird, Eric Jacobson as Bert, Grover and Oscar the Grouch, Peter Linz as Ernie, David Rudman as Cookie Monster, and Martin P. Robinson as Telly Monster and Mr Snuffleupagus.

American rapper Post Malone and comedian Michelle Buteau also join the adventure.

Storm on Sesame Street may not be action-packed, but it delivers a meaningful message: storms can be frightening, difficult times pass and no one should face hardship alone.

We may not be able to stop every storm, but we can prepare, care for one another and help rebuild what we’ve lost. And who knows? The next time someone needs a hero, you could be one!
