PESHAWAR: United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and Peshawar Press Club (PPC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation and joint initiatives in the fields of education, health, nutrition, child rights and protection.

The partnership aims to highlight issues affecting children’s welfare, strengthen the role of the media in raising public awareness and provide necessary support to the Peshawar Press Club for initiatives relating to children.

A ceremony was held at the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday to mark the signing of the agreement. The PPC vice president Ziaul Haq, joint secretary Gulzar Mohammad, finance secretary Irshad Ali, senior journalists, bureau chiefs of various media organisations and a large number of journalists attended the event.

The speakers included Unicef chief in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Radoslaw Radek, communications consultant Fasiha Sharif, PPC president M Riaz, general secretary Alamgir Khan and senior journalist Shamim Shahid.

They emphasised the importance of media in highlighting issues concerning children’s education, health, nutrition, rights and protection, raising public awareness and promoting a child-friendly environment.

The speakers expressed hope that the partnership would help identify challenges faced by children, encourage responsible media coverage of child-related issues and contribute to greater public awareness of their rights and welfare.

They said the MoU would create new opportunities for cooperation, information sharing and joint activities focusing on children’s well-being.

The MoU was signed by Unicef Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief Radoslaw Radek and PPC president M Riaz on behalf of their respective organisations, paving the way for formal cooperation between the two institutions.
