HARIPUR, July 30: The NWFP government cannot be removed because its four-year performance has made it politically invincible, according to provincial Minister for Transport and Fisheries Akhtar Nawaz Khan.

“ I don’t see any immediate threat to Akram Durrani-led government but when time comes, a number of opposition benchers will be on our side,” he said while speaking at the press club here on Sunday.

Ennumerating the MMA government’s achievements since its coming to power, he said: “Free mandatory education from class I to X, first women’s university, new agriculture policy, honorarium for senior citizens, healthcare, water supply and road projects are parameters of our performance.” He said that it was because of the provincial government’s better working relationship with the centre that had earned the province an additional payment of Rs2 billion on account of net hydel profit and paved the way for payment of Rs195 billion.

For protection of environment, he said, the provincial government had banned the registration of two-stroke rickshaws and encouraging CNG-fitted tri-wheelers in the province.

The provincial minister said that an interest-free credit scheme had also been launched by the MMA government to facilitate jobless youths.

Mr Khan denied reports about MMA component parties had collected resignations from their MPAs.
