PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has resolved many of the issues by making main roads signal-free, introducing various bus routes and improving other facilities. Recently, the Expressway linking Islamabad to Rawat and Motorway has been widened, improving the traffic flow. The CDA has erected pedestrian bridges at various spots, but the Bhandar locality lacks one. Many lives have been lost due to the lack of a pedestrian bridge at that spot. The relevant authorities must pay attention to the matter immediately.

JUNK FOOD IN CANTEENS: In pursuit of quick and spicy food options, many people — especially young students — compromise their health. Skipping a wholesome breakfast in the morning and relying on canteens stocked with fried potatoes, samosas, spicy biryani and processed sandwiches has become a daily routine for students attending schools, colleges and universities. Consequently, health issues like obesity, diabetes and digestive disorders are increasingly affecting our young. The government and institutional administrations must take decisive action. Banning ultra-processed junk food at canteens, enforcing stricter health and hygiene standards and raising awareness about the significance of home-cooked food can protect the health of our future generations. Parents also need to change children’s eating habits.

RESCUE POST RESTORATION: The Sanjwal-Bahter Road in Attock is an important inter-district route connecting more than 24 villages and settlements. Road accidents are a frequent occurrence in the area, and, due to the lack of timely rescue and emergency services, precious lives are often lost. A Rescue 1122 post was established a few years ago at Bolianwal, but it was discontinued after only one year. There is an urgent need to restore the post permanently to provide essential emergency coverage to the entire 36km stretch of the important road.

If this new technocratic setup proves to be successful and efficient, it might just end up increasing centralisation of decision-making.
