KARACHI: Robbers took away Rs6 million from the cashier of a petrol pump near Mosamiyat in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Monday, police said.

They said that the cashier, along with a security guard, was on his way to deposit the cash to a nearby private bank when six robbers intercepted the vehicle, held them at gunpoint and snatched Rs6m.

The police said as the robbers were fleeing, the guard opened fire, but the bullet hit a passer-by, later identified as Mohammed Afzal, 48.

The suspects managed to escape from the spot, leaving behind their motorcycle and a pistol.

Investigators said the motorcycle was without a number plate. However, they said they had obtained significant clues about them and that concerted efforts were underway to arrest them.
