SWABI/BAJAUR: The district administration sealed two private schools on Monday in Razaar tehsil of Swabi due to dilapidated condition of their buildings.

Officials said that Deputy Commissioner Nasarullah Khan had directed assistant commissioners of the four tehsils to inspect buildings of both public and private educational institutions in their respective regions and take prompt action to avoid any untoward incident.

They said that Fakhr-i-Alam, the assistant commissioner of Razaar, sealed Star English Medium High School Dagai and Al-Badar Model School, Dagai Campus, due to their dilapidated condition. The dilapidated buildings were posing a threat to the lives of students, they added.

It was not immediately clear as to what would be the fate of the students of the two sealed schools.

Parents of students told this scribe that it was the responsibility of the government and administration of the two closed schools to make arrangements for education of students. They said that students should be shifted to other campuses of the sealed schools but the issue of transport should be also handled because they were not in a position to bear the expense of vans.

The deputy commissioner said that a full-fledged campaign was launched by district administration to avoid a Peshawar-like incident in which 33 students along with their teacher were killed when a school building collapsed. In Bajaur, authorities have completed inspection of about 85pc educational institutions to assess their buildings and safety conditions.

The deputy district education officer, Lawdan Shahid, told journalists that the survey of buildings of educational institutions, both public and private, was launched on Sunday, a day after senior officials of district administration, education and communication and works (C&W) departments held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Adnan Farid Afridi. He said that there were a total of 861 educational institutions in the district. He said that 710 of those institutions were public while 151 were private. He said that about 85pc of inspection work was completed while the remaining would be completed by today (Tuesday).
