LAHORE: Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched a province-wide crackdown on vehicles bearing fake, cloned and tampered with number plates, using advanced surveillance technology across 43 “smart safe cities,” including Lahore.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, the authority’s cameras automatically detect suspicious number plates and generate instant alerts. Vehicles with registration numbers concealed with tape, cloth or any other object, are also being monitored through the surveillance system, he says.

He says several suspicious vehicles have been traced and seized for legal action in Lahore and other parts of the province following alerts generated by the PSCA system.

Legal proceedings, including registration of cases, are underway against those using fake, cloned or tampered with number plates, the spokesperson adds.
