PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has announced a substantial increase in compensation and financial assistance for police martyrs, injured personnel and their families under a special relief package.

In a video message on Friday, the governor announced enhanced compensation for police martyrs, financial assistance for their families and an increase in salaries of police personnel.

Under the revised package, compensation for martyred constables and inspectors has been increased from Rs11 million to Rs17 million, while the amount for martyred DSPs and ASPs has risen from Rs16 million to Rs25 million.

The compensation for martyrs in grades 18 and 19 has increased from Rs21 million to Rs30 million, while that for grade 20 and above officers has risen from Rs21 million to Rs35 million.

The governor also approved financial assistance in place of residential plots for the families of martyred police personnel. The families of constables and inspectors will receive Rs18 million instead of a five-marla plot, while the families of martyred DSPs and ASPs will receive Rs25 million for housing assistance.

Similarly, the families of martyrs in grades 18 and 19 will receive Rs35 million instead of a 10-marla plot, while the families of grade 20 and above officers will receive Rs70 million in place of a one-kanal plot.

The package also increases compensation for police personnel injured in the line of duty from Rs100,000 to Rs1.5 million. Personnel who suffer permanent disabilities will receive Rs5 million.

The governor further announced financial assistance of Rs5 million in case of the death of a police officer’s spouse or child and Rs3 million in case of the death of a parent or sibling.

The package also provides Rs1 million as a special gift for the marriage of daughters of police martyrs.

Mr Kundi directed the authorities to work with banks and corporate companies to support police personnel and the families of martyrs.

He said the families of police martyrs were a source of pride and their care was a collective responsibility, adding that the relief package recognised the sacrifices rendered by the KP police.
