SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Insaf Students Federation (ISF), student wing of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), staged a protest in Azam Warsak Bazaar, Lower South Waziristan, on Friday against the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency.

They condemned arrests of ISF provincial president Musharraf Afridi and member of the National Assembly Zubair Khan Wazir.

The protesters demanded immediate release of the detained leaders and called for a review of decisions regarding governor’s rule and emergency. Led by the ISF Lower South Waziristan district president Nazir Ahmed Wazir, the protesters gathered in the main bazaar and raised slogans against what they called unconstitutional and illegal actions.

The protesters set tyres on fire on the main road and disrupted traffic to register their protest, expressing concern over the prevailing political and administrative situation.

They urged the authorities to address their grievances through constitutional and democratic means.

The PTI leaders and workers said political differences should be resolved through dialogue rather than arrests or administrative measures.

They called upon the relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the arrests of Musharraf Afridi and Zubair Khan Wazir and ensure that all related matters were dealt with in accordance with the constitution and law.

The protesters also stressed the need to protect public rights, democratic values and political freedoms. They said the authorities should take effective steps to ease political tensions and address the concerns of the people.

They vowed to continue their struggle for their demands through peaceful and democratic means.

Meanwhile, Haroon Wazir, personal secretary to PTI MNA Zubair Khan Wazir, said that 24 days had passed since the lawmaker’s arrest, but his family had yet to establish contact with him.

In a statement, Mr Haroon said that no clear information about the lawmaker’s whereabouts had been made available and that nobody had been allowed to meet him.

He said lack of communication had caused serious concern among the MNA’s family members and supporters.

He urged the relevant authorities to disclose the lawmaker’s current location and clarify his legal status. He also called for arrangements to enable Mr Zubair to contact and meet his family members and lawyers in accordance with the law.
