GUJRAT: As many as 20 officials of Gujranwala police, including some sub-inspectors, have been dismissed from service over absence from duty, corruption, misuse of authority and indiscipline.

The dismissed officials also include some policewomen, whereas two sub inspectors (SIs) were demoted to the rank of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on the charges of corruption.

A spokesman for Gujranwala police says 15 of the officials were dismissed for showing “cowardliness” during special law and order duties and consistent absence from their duty. Those dismissed also include constables and drivers, he adds.

He says SI Kamran Tufail was dismissed on the charge of corruption, while a woman SI, Tehzeeb Shaukat and a lady constable were dismissed for being absent from their duty.

Moreover, SI Mushtaq was dismissed from service on the allegation of corruption, while two other SIs – Ishtiaq and Yaseen – were demoted to the rank of ASI on similar charges.

A traffic assistant, Abdullah, was dismissed for misbehaving with a senior officer during the duty, whereas a constable, Arshad, was dismissed for giving protocol to a drug dealer during the latter’s appearance in the court. The spokesman says that the action has been taken as part of internal accountability in the department.
