BAHAWALPUR: Local civil defencedepartment claimed to have defused two live explosive devices near the Eastern Bypass on Tuesday, averting loss of lives and property.

According to the department, on receipt of an emergencycall from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) about two live explosive devices at Basti Khanowali near Bahawalpur city’s Eastern Bypass, experts from the Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to the scene.

The experts safely defused both devices weighing 501 grams and 529 grams, respectively.

They said that if exploded, the devices would have caused casualties and damage to structures within a diameter of 27 metres and 90 meters, respectively.

According to police and civil defence officials, the explosive devices had apparently been planted along a busy road to inflict maximum loss of lives and property.
