GUJRAT: Some victims of a private bank manager’s financial scam have allegedly occupied the residence of the accused manager, who has reportedly fled the country.

The manager’s father, Muhammad Akram, had lodged a formal complaint with the Gujrat Saddar police claiming that his 16-marla house in the River Garden Housing Society had been forcibly occupied by some unidentified suspects in the absence of his family.

It is learnt that the complainant had also produced the ownership documents of the property.

A Gujrat Police spokesperson said that the matter was being investigated by senior police officials, while the police have sealed the house.

Some residents of the colony claimed that several affected parties had attempted to occupy the house and even quarrelled with each other at the scene when some of them tried to take the car of the accused bank manager.

The manager was accused of defrauding several account holders of the branch on the pretext of different investment opportunities and reports claimed that he had taken from Rs800 million to Rs1 billion from different affectees.

Local sources claimed the manager had initially taken a two-week leave from the bank and was admitted to a private hospital before fleeing to Saudi Arabia.

Sources claimed that he also had a visa for the United States of America and he could have fled there as his other family members had returned from KSA.

Meanwhile, some colleagues of the manager were also accused of abetting him as the racket involved providing facilitation for student visas and preparing bank statements.

The bank officials were allegedly involved in utilising finances of some account holders for the provision of statements in return for monetary benefits.
