BAHAWALPUR: The Crime Control Department (CCD), Basti Malook, near Lodhran, claimed to have arrested three suspects involved in dacoities and fraud in injured condition following separate encounters.

According to CCD sources, a team led by an inspector was patrolling FatimaJinnah Town at night when it signalled three motorcycle riders at Bilal Chowk to stop for identification.

The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party, which chased them. In an attempt to escape, the suspects’ motorcycle collided with a footpath, leaving Shahryar and Ali Raza injured.

The CCD team overpowered and arrested the two suspects, while their third accomplice managed to flee under the cover of darkness.

Officials claimed that Shahryar and his accomplices were allegedly leading a gang that robbed passers-by at night by placing barricades on roads in the area. The team recovered a stolen motorcycle and empty bullet casings from their possession.

In a separate incident, the CCD arrested gang leader Ghulam Abbas in an injured condition during a blockade on Dunyapur Road. According to police, he was involved in robbing passengers travelling in motorcycle rickshaws at night. His accomplice escaped from the scene.

The police claimed to have recovered a stolen motorcycle, a pistol and empty bullet covers from his possession.

All three suspects were shifted to Nishtar Hospital, Multan, for treatment. Officials said cases had been registered against the fleeing accomplices.

CCD Regional Officer Salim Ahmed Khan Kalachi awarded commendation certificates to the team.
